My name is Elisabeta and for the past months I have been on an exchange program at the University of Surrey in UK. I chose this university due to its advantageous position to London, only 40 minutes by train.
The structure of the courses and the teaching methods were very much like in the Netherlands. However, the passing grade in the UK is a 4 out of 10, fact that can release some of the stress of studying and allow you to enjoy more the exchange period. The course I took were: International Criminal Law, Competition Law, Tort Law, and Company Law.
I had decided to live at the student accommodation offered by the university, as it was the easiest and the most advantageous option for an exchange student. The prices of accommodation are higher than in the Netherlands, but acceptable in relation to the conditions offered. The university and its campus are relatively new, therefore, the study blocks, library and student accommodation are very modern and well equipped. The vast and diverse programs offered by the university make Surrey a multicultural environment with a lot of activities and societies to take part in.
The city of Guildford is located at 15 minutes walking from the campus and it offers various restaurants, bars and shopping centers. Moreover, the surrounding areas are well known for natural reservations considered to be of an outstanding beauty. I wish I had more time to be able to visit these parts, but I have spent most of my time in London. Who doesn’t love London and its drizzling atmosphere after all? However, if you enjoy nature and a calm environment this university is the perfect place.
Thus, I recommend this university to someone who wants to enjoy London without having to pay the tremendous renting prices, but also to those who want a relaxing time surrounded by nature.
